Canadian truckers « freedom convoy » across Canada in protest of vaccine mandate
Canadian truckers are heading to Ottawa on Sunday morning in protest of a federal vaccine mandate.
The convoy started their trek on Highway One, joining other truckers as they cross provincial borders.
The Canadian and American governments have both made vaccines mandatory in order to cross their respective borders.
An online fundraiser to pay for the trek has raised nearly two-million dollars.
They expect to arrive in Ottawa on Jan. 29.
On Jan. 15, the federal government mandated unvaccinated or single dosed Canadian truckers to quarantine when entering Canada based on pre-entry, arrival, and day 8 testing.
American truckers are also turned away at the border unless they’ve been fully vaccinated.
In a statement from the Canadian Trucking Alliance, they say “The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) does not support and strongly disapproves of any protests on public roadways, highways, and bridges.”
About 10 per cent of the 120,000 Canadian truckers who traverse the border are unable to work those routes because they haven’t received their shots, according to the CTA.
